How We Stepped Up

When Title X funding was withheld, our community couldn’t afford to wait.

When access to essential reproductive health care is threatened, the impact isn’t theoretical, it’s immediate, personal, and deeply felt. When Title X Family Planning funding was abruptly withheld earlier this year, clinics across our region were faced with impossible choices, and patients were left uncertain about whether they could still receive care.

AccessMatters refused to let that uncertainty turn into harm.

What the Title X Funding Withholding Meant for Our Community

Title X is the nation’s only federal program dedicated to providing affordable family planning and preventive health services. For many people, especially those who are uninsured or underinsured, it is the difference between receiving care and going without.

When those funds were withheld, clinics lost a critical source of support overnight. That meant fewer appointments, reduced services, and increased financial strain on providers already operating with limited resources. Most importantly, it put patients at risk of losing timely access to contraception, cancer screenings, STI testing, and other essential services.

Choosing Action Over Inaction

In the face of this disruption, AccessMatters stepped up, quickly and intentionally.

We strategized with clinics on how to keep their doors open and continue serving patients without interruption. We worked closely with trusted provider partners to identify the most urgent needs and direct resources where they would make the greatest immediate impact.

This wasn’t about filling gaps temporarily, it was about stabilizing care, protecting dignity, and ensuring that no one was turned away because of a policy decision beyond their control.

Standing With Providers, Centering Patients

Our work has always been grounded in partnership. During the Title X withholding, that meant listening closely to providers on the front lines and responding with flexibility and urgency. It meant centering patients, especially those most impacted by systemic barriers, and ensuring that care remained affordable, accessible, and compassionate.

Because reproductive health care is not optional. It is foundational.

A Community Effort, A Shared Commitment

This moment underscored what we know to be true: when systems fail, community steps in. AccessMatters was able to respond because of the collective commitment of partners, advocates, and supporters who believe that everyone deserves access to high-quality reproductive health care. We are proud of how our community showed up. And we are steadfast in our commitment to continue showing up, before, during, and after moments of crisis.
